ABC of performance:
A. Activator – What gets performance going?
B. Behavior – the performance that occurs
C. Consequence – response to the performance
Blanchard states that there are four possible ‘consequences.’
  1. No Response
  2. Negative Response
    Both of these lack the power to build relationships
  3. Redirection
    • Describe the error as soon as possible, without blame
    • Show it’s negative impact
    • Go over task in detail
    • Express continuing faith in the person
  4. Positive Response
    • Praise Progress, it’s a moving target
WHALE DONE philosophy: 
  1. Praise people immediately
  2. Be specific about what they did right
  3. Share your positive feelings
  4. Encourage them to keep up good work!
